A home pool table is a great thing to have and if you are lucky enough to own one then I highly recommend you look for adequate lighting. Pool table lights bring a whole new element to playing as they illuminate the whole playing field perfectly and evenly.
It will be bright and the colors will stand out and the balls will glisten. Picking the best pool table lights will make your table look like a million dollars!
You may be wondering if lights above your table are even worth a few hundred dollars, after all your room will have lighting anyway, so do you really need the extra light?
Well, I can understand that point of view, and your room lighting will shed some light on a table but the playing surface will be littered with shadows and darker and lighter sections that will strain your eyes when cueing for a shot. Adding lights above your table sounds irrelevant but it will add a level of comfort that will reduce glare and shadows over the whole playing surface
There are a few things that need to be considered when choosing the best pool table lights such as distance from the table and length of the lights for the table size, all of these will be answered in my buyer’s guide below the pool table lights reviews.

Need Some Light Bulbs With Your Pool Table Lights
Picking the best billiard lights can be time-consuming and frustrating at times, so I hope this article helps you out! But there is one little aspect that people forget about when they are looking for pool table lights and it can prove more troublesome than finding the right billiard lights – the right light bulb to light up your pool table.
I went into a little more detail on what type of bulb is required in the buyers guide below, but this one I think works great on a pool table – It’s an energy-efficient E26 LED bulb. It’s not dimmable though. Check it out below
Wellmet – Pool Table Billiard Lights
Wanting to spruce up the ambiance around your billiard table? Then, this Wellmet Billiard Light may be the perfect thing for you! It is great for 7’, 8’ or 9′ pool tables.
It claims it’s great for 9 ft tables but from experience billiard table lights that use only 3 bulbs tend not to illuminate the table fully – this is contrary to what the reviews say, just giving you my opinion. There is however a 70 Inch variation (Amazon link below)
I love the style of this Wellmet pool table light, it’s modern and would look awesome in a modern man cave. It’s stylishly designed with premium metal lights and a really stylish cross metal beam that holds decorative pool balls within. The whole thing looks amazing and it’s exceptionally well made.
As mentioned its a 3 bulb setup which will do a great job illuminating a 7 or 8 ft table, they claim its ideal for a 9 ft too. It comes with an adjustable chain for hanging the lights from the ceiling, with a maximum length of 35 inches.
These pool table lights are available in 4 different colors and the whole thing has a size of 59.05 inch in length – 14.17 inch wide – 13.62 inch in Height with a combined weight of 25.25lb. No light bulbs are included in this but they take standard E26 bulbs (check out the above comparison table for some suitable bulbs)
This will certainly brighten up your pool table and make the whole set-up look professional and stylish.

RAM Gameroom Pool Table Lights
This Pool table lights from RAM Gameroom is an addition for your pool table that can’t be understated. A fantastic-looking centerpiece to light up the whole of the pool table so you can easily and clearly see every corner.
At 44 inches long and using 4 E26 bulbs it is capable of illuminating a 7 foot and 8 foot table perfectly without any shadows.
What I really like about this is the fact it uses beautiful stained glass panels that reminds me of my years at an old local pub/bar where they used to have such pool table lights hovering over the tables. They really complimented the surroundings and gave an authentic classic billiards look to the room.
The filigree yellow stained glass pool table lights come with 2 x 3ft chains for hanging the lights above the table. The Dimensions of this are L44xW17xH9 Inches and weight about 33 lbs.
Although a little more expensive, you are paying for a product of superior build. The stained glass with metal frame are extremely well made and they will complement any games room.
PROS
- Stained glass design
- 3ft chain
- Well made
CONS
- Difficult to piece together

Also available in 59 Inches which is perfect for a 7 or 8ft pool table (Amazon link below)
Because of its length, this would hang perfectly above a larger table, perhaps a 9ft or even a 10ft carrom table. With the different matte colors available and steel frame, this will not only look great but be really durable.
With two metal chains (35″ each in length), you can easily adjust the height of this pool table light above the table for your ideal playing conditions. The bulb fittings of this fixture take 4 E26 bulbs and will illuminate the table perfectly eliminating shadows and giving you a clear and crisp view. As a warning, the bulbs aren’t included, I’ve included some suitable bulbs below the comparison table (above).
The 4 cone style light shade with a matte look hanging from a support beam gives the whole piece a classic look that will look great, especially on a larger table.
This fitting is L 70.86”× W 14.17 × H13.62 inches and will brighten not only your table but your whole style – its a lovely looking piece!

Wellmet Vintage 3-Light Pool Table Light
If you are looking for a more vintage style to hang above your table then this Tiffany-style fixture will look perfect for your games room.
Wellmet are experts in lighting needs and they delivered once again with this classic-looking pool table lighting fixture. They claim it’s ideal for 7,8 and even 9ft billiard tables and that may be true but personally, I would want a longer fixture with perhaps 4 bulbs lighting the table.
It’s hard to say which is the best pool table lights as it will largely depend on your style preference and table size but this one from wellmet must be a consideration if you are looking for a vintage style. As with all these lights, bulbs are not included so be sure to pick up at least 3 E26 style bulbs – or check out the ones I suggest below the comparison table (Above).
The Acrylic Tiffany-style panels are securely held into the metal frame making the whole fixture look stylish, old-school, and classy. You can alter the hanging distance from the table using the adjustable 36 Inch chain provided.

Buyers Guide: Best Billiard Table Lights
There are a few things you’ll need to consider when choosing the best pool table lights. Some of them might sound a little obvious but they can’t be underestimated. I will include them and a few other important factors to consider when picking the lights for your pool table.
I will give you my own personal opinion and some standard practices to help you out.
What Size Billiard Light Should I Get For My Pool Table
Although this measurement doesn’t need to be exact, try to hang your pool table lights about 30-35 Inches from the table bed to the bulb. This should be high enough to eliminate shadows from the table and make a clear and bright playing surface.
How High Above the Billiard Table Should The Table Lights Be
The right size will make all the difference. Often the best way to choose a good size is to measure your pool table and go from there. You can also choose to do one large light that will cover up the whole area or a few smaller ones. Some examples of how to pick the right size of light includes:
- 7ft & 8ft pool tables: 3 light fittings and a length between 35-55 inches
- 9ft pool table: 4 light fittings and a length between 60-75 Inches
Type of Bulb Needed
For most billiard lights available, including all on this list, use an E26 Edison light bulb incandescent, CFL, or LED. Its recommended a 60-watt bulb and personally I like the bulbs to be frosted as it will help distribute the light more evenly.
Depending on the length you will most likely need 3 or 4 light bulbs.
A good light bulb to use on pool tables are these 60-watt energy-saving LED bulbs from Hansang(Amazon link)
How Much Light Does a Pool Table Need
If you want to follow the official rules from WPApool.com They state that the bed and the rails of the billiard table have to receive at least 540 lux of light at every point.
What the Table Lights Should Do
The main purpose of these lights is not to brighten up the whole room and the players. It is to just lighten up the playing surface of the table and remove shadows. You need to find a light that is bright enough to do this and will fit in the proper placement based on your room.
Choose the Right Style of Pool Table Lights for Your Home
There are different types of styles that you can choose based on what the décor in the rest of the room looks like and what your goals are for that room. Some of the different styles you should consider include:
- Tiffany styled: This is a stained-glass look. It is an antique kind of look reminiscent of what you would find at an actual pool hall.
- Modern style: This will make the room bright with simple lines and more focus on the actual lights.
- Contemporary style: This is a little more styled than the modern but still sleek and looks nice.
